Business Advocacy Organization Neutral on SDRAA
Ballot Measure
SAN DIEGO, Wednesday, August 9, 2006 – Reaffirming that Downtown is the financial, cultural and civic heart of the region, the Downtown San Diego Partnership’s Board of Directors has taken a position in support of the continued, long-term operation of Lindbergh Field.
In a letter sent today to San Diego Regional Airport Authority Chairman Joseph Craver, Partnership President Barbara Warden wrote:
“As the leading advocate for the economic growth and revitalization of Downtown San Diego, the Partnership recognizes Downtown as the financial, cultural and civic heart of the San Diego County region. As such, the Partnership supports the continued, long-term operation of Lindbergh Field, believing that air transportation in close proximity to downtown is critical to the City's long-term economic vitality. While the Partnership might possibly support the addition of a new airport to our regional transportation system, the SDRAA ballot measure as currently drafted is silent regarding the continued long-term operation of Lindbergh Field. Consequently, the Partnership has adopted a position of neutrality on the SDRAA ballot proposal.”
The Downtown San Diego Partnership was formed in 1993 with the merger of two prominent business associations: San Diegans Inc. (formed in 1958), and the Centre City Association (formed in 1952.) Today, the Partnership has more than 325 members and serves as the leading advocate for Downtown economic development, residential living, entertainment, and the arts.
