Downtown Partnership Joins Community Alliance for Sunrise Powerlink

 

Local Business and Labor Leaders Launch

“Community Alliance for the Sunrise Powerlink”

Record Heat Noted as One Reason to Support Project

 

What:          News conference to announce formation of a citizens’ group to support the planned Sunrise Powerlink transmission line, which will provide reliable energy to the San Diego region for decades to come.  The Community Alliance for the Sunrise Powerlink’s co-chairs will unveil and sign a poster-sized letter urging the California Public Utilities Commission to approve the project.

 

When:         Monday, July 24, 2006 at 10:30 a.m.

 

Where:        Horton Plaza Square, by the NBC building, 225 Broadway, in downtown San Diego

Who:          Community Alliance for the Sunrise Powerlink is a diverse group of community leaders that represents major San Diego businesses, individuals and families who depend on reliable and affordable energy.  News conference participants include:

 

Ø      Barbara Warden, Downtown San Diego Partnership president, Community Alliance for the Sunrise Powerlink co-chair

Ø      Joe Panetta, BIOCOM president and CEO, Community Alliance for the Sunrise Powerlink co-chair

Ø      Jerry Butkiewicz, San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council secretary-treasurer, Community Alliance for the Sunrise Powerlink co-chair

Ø      Debbie Reed, San Diego Gas & Electric president and chief operating officer

 

Why:           The Sunrise Powerlink is the only energy initiative that addresses all of San Diego’s energy needs.  The 120-mile transmission line is critical to sustaining a steady electricity supply for the region.

 

Food:         Free ice cream, cookies and drinks will be provided. 

 

Visuals:      Dignitaries signing poster-sized letter to the California Public Utilities Commission, colorful balloon displays, people enjoying free ice cream and cookies.
